چکیده

The design of a prototype adaptive catalog is presented. Online catalog searches commonly retrieve too few or too many items. This prototype, implemented as a transparent workstationbased front-end to MELVYL (tm) online catalog of the holdings of the nine campuses of the University of California, adapts to excessive or insufficient retrieval by strategically limiting, sorting, or expanding users searches, based on preferences defined by the user.
